Background

Dr. Mathur is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. His clinical focus includes knee and shoulder injuries, joint preservation, and replacement. He manages all knee problems from ACL and meniscus tears to cartilage restoration and knee replacements. Similarily, he treats all shoulder problems from dislocations to rotator cuff pathology and arthritis. He does MAKO robot assisted knee replacements and uses custom patient specific instrumentation for shoulder replacements.

 

He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, where he also worked as an EMT and provided stadium and sideline care for local high schools and colleges. He completed his medical training in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Southern California, bringing a broad range of experience and expertise to his patients in Rhode Island. He has has taken care of professional and olympic level athletes and takes pride in creating a customized treatment plan for each patient.

 

He has published research in regional, national and international medical journals. He was part of the group that won the 2026 Charles S Neer award that is given to the best shoulder clinical research paper of the year. He is widely regarded as an expert in his field.

Technology

During his fellowship training, Dr. Mathur was a part of the first trial in the United States for robotic shoulder replacements. He routinely uses computer assisted planning software to personalize every shoulder replacement to each patient. For knee replacements he uses the MAKO robot to provide excellent and predictable results for his patients that undergo either total or partial knee replacements. He embraces new technology while working to find the right solution for you.

Education

Dr. Mathur is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He regularly attends regional and national meetings to stay up to date on the latest surgical techniques, treatment guidelines, and advancements in orthopedic sports medicine, ensuring excellent care for his patients. He is also an advisor for the Medical Student Orthopedic Society and provides mentorship to the next generation of surgeons
